Power your future with accredited solar training
Scientec equips learners with the technical skills to install, service, and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Our qualifications are accredited and nationally recognised, preparing learners for one of South Africa’s fastest-growing industries.
Programmes in this faculty:
These skills programmes prepare learners to install, maintain, and operate photovoltaic systems in line with safety and energy standards.

Solar PV
Service Technician
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair
This three-year occupational qualification equips learners to service, maintain and repair systems in compliance with Department of Energy regulations. The programme ensures graduates are work-ready for one of the fastest-growing industries.

SOLAR PV
SYSTEM MOUNTER
The practical start to a solar career
This occupational certificate equips learners with the practical skills to safely mount and install pre-designed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems under the guidance of an installer or designer.

SOLAR PV
SYSTEM INSTALLER
Design, install, and commission
This occupational certificate prepares learners to plan, design, customise, install, and test solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. Graduates are equipped to liaise with clients, conduct site visits, and ensure systems are fully operational and compliant.
Accredited
Accredited provider with renewable energy training expertise.
Practical
Practical, hands-on workshop environment.

Pathways
Clear pathway for both new apprentices and experienced workers.
A qualified learner will be able to:
- Perform maintenance (preventative, scheduled, unscheduled) on PV systems in compliance with the Department of Energy and related regulations
- Isolate the PV system (in the case of a PV farm this is done with authorisation obtained fromthe plant controller
- Perform fault finding (trouble-shooting), identifies deficiencies
- Analyses information, carries out maintenance, repairs (including removing and replacingcomponents), and finds solutions to a range of problems.
A Solar Photovoltaic Service Technician may be employed either at a photovoltaic farm or at standalone PV installations. Hence, there is the Photovoltaic (PV) Service Technician (PV Farm) and the Photovoltaic (PV) Service Technician (Stand-Alone Installation).
Entry Requirements: NQF Level 4 qualification with mathematics.
Shine a Light on Your Future
